The Department of Advocate General State of Himachal Pradesh came into existence in the year 1971. The Advocate General for the State is appointed under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India. Under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India, it has been provided that the Governor of each State shall appoint a person who is qualified to be appointed a judge of a High Court to be Advocate General for the State.
